Thinking About Selling Your Home? Here Are 3 Things to do FIRST
1. Outline a timeline of when you would like to move.
Thinking about your goals around when to move and when you want to be in your new home will help set expectations, and allow you to create an intentional timeline that works for you. You’ll also want to consider the housing market to help determine when is the best time to put your home on the market in your area. Understand how long homes are taking to sell in your market and specifically in your neighborhood. From there, you’ll want to outline repairs and updates that may be needed and run them by your Realtor to make sure they are necessary. Think about if you’ll want to handle them before putting your home on the market, or if you are willing to negotiate the repairs with potential buyers.
2. Create a Plan B.
The goal is for things to go as planned, AND we all know that sometimes they don't, so what happens if things change and you have to pivot? This is why we recommend having a plan B for your timeline. Consider the time your home could sit on the market, how long repairs may take, and if you’ll need to move and pay the mortgage of your current home while living somewhere else.
